The luminous Los Angeles footprint and the comings and goings of the ever-shrinking global world are captured by Victor Hugo Zayas in his new series, AIRE. Standing in front of one of his textural masterpieces, the embedded force in his work shines visceral and bright, peeking through the dense brush strokes, revealing his impression of humanity in beautifully tragic and astute ways. Much like the work of Mark Rothko, Zayas’s work is profoundly imbued with abstract emotional content and driven by the qualities and power of the material, paint. Like a revelation, Zayas connects with the contemporary art world by presenting a new sense of space to the canvas, with depth and form possessing the immediate believability of a photograph.
